A 3 day teaching event with Geshe Tenzin Zopa
Geshe Tenzin Zopa is returning to the Blue Mountains late August for a three day teaching. We invite you to join us for this exciting event. There will be general workshops on the first day in which we will explore how Buddhism can help during difficult times. Geshela will present practical techniques such as meditation to help us cultivate calm in the face of adversity.
A Tara Retreat will be held on the second and third day. Tara is an important female bodhisattva in Buddhism. She is often referred to as the ‘mother of all Buddhas’ and ‘Tara the liberator’ as those who request help, find solace in her.
Saturday 31st August (10 am – 12pm)
HOW BUDDHISM CAN HELP DURING DIFFICULT TIMES
Our world can change in an instant. We face war, conflict, ill-health, natural disasters, loss. In these difficult times people’s worry and uncertainty has escalated. What can we do though, if we have no control over the wars and conflicts, natural disasters or sickness?
In this workshop, Buddhist monk and teacher, Geshe Tenzin Zopa provides a perspective on how to develop a stable and calm mind to help us to deal with times of great difficulty. In the morning session Geshela will draw on 2,600 years of Buddhist experience and share how we can relate it to our circumstances in the 21st Century to deal with our inner and outer challenges. He will share on how we can rewire our brain for happiness and resilience.
Afternoon session (1.30pm – 3.00pm)
PRACTICAL WAYS OF CULTIVATING CALM IN A WORLD OF UNCERTAINTY
Following on from the morning session Geshela will focus on the practical techniques that Buddhism offers to help us cultivate calm, even in the midst of huge difficulty. We will look at meditation practices and other tools that will help us to become adaptive and flexible.
As Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hahn said, when your worry comes up, you have to know how to handle it tenderly and peacefully. Geshe Tenzin Zopa’s afternoon session focuses on Buddhist tools that will help us to cultivate calm. He offers some practical solutions for dealing with our very real worries and concerns, so that we can enjoy a more peaceful life.
These teachings are suitable for everyone.
Sunday 1st September – Monday 2nd September (9.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
2-day Tara Retreat
When we dedicate time to retreat it allows us to step out of the complexity of our life and to listen deeply to our body, heart, and mind. For centuries, retreats have been a central part of the Buddhist path of awakening. Retreats offer practical instruction and support for discovering inner peace, deep understanding, and liberation.
Contemplation on compassionate beings such as Mother Tara allows us to connect in a supportive atmosphere. Geshe Tenzin Zopa is a Buddhist master and international teacher with extensive retreat and meditation experience. He understands the Western mind exceedingly well, having been teaching around the world extensively for over 20 years.
During this retreat we will make time for meditation, quiet contemplation and personal connection with Tara, the mother of all Buddhas. We will enjoy beautiful flower and light offering rituals led by Geshela, and discover the joy of giving to holy beings and other sentient beings. Geshela is the holder of many rare lineages and we are very fortunate that he has agreed to give lungs (oral transmissions) of Tara practices as part of this retreat. Lungs create an auspicious connection with the practices and texts that are transmitted and also enable the student to receive the blessing of the lineage.
These teachings are suitable for everyone.
